6 tips for a successful free art scavenger hunt (#arthuntWR) — as an art hunter
May 24, 2017
Art-lovers across Waterloo Region have May 27 marked in their calendars. On this day, artists will be hiding local creations and posting clues on Instagram for the hunters to find. The first hunter to find the art gets to keep it.
Here are my top tips to art hunters planning to search for local gems in our free art scavenger hunt.
Go as a team
Some artists leave difficult clues to cipher. Having a small group of friends to solve the puzzle will get you to the art faster. It’s especially helpful if your friends are from a different part of the region than you. Call one or two of your friends ahead of time to plan your participation.
Wear comfortable shoes
We’ve seen art hidden in fields, parks, and bleachers. Wear clothing and footwear that won’t hold you back from that hidden treasure.
Bring a bag
Artists hide all forms of art: jewelery, prints, paintings, photography, ceramics, poetry, and more. Bring a secure place to keep your finds safe until you get home.
Follow the Instagram account
You know to keep your eye on the hashtag to be the first to see new art and hiding spots. Follow the Instagram and Twitter accounts so you don’t miss any new posts. It’s also the only way to see the art hidden by private accounts.
Be respectful of shops and parks
If you are moving items while looking for the art, please put them back and leave the area as you found it.
Reach out to the artist
Many artists love hearing from the hunters who find their work. Send a picture of the art on display or in use to make their day.
And, of course, remember to HAVE FUN. You can learn more about #arthuntWR here.
